Is there homework?
Yes! Three minutes per day, in both the 1:1 and the video course.
Is this only for teenagers? Or is it for adults, too?
The class is for anyone aged 12 and older. Adults can benefit enormously from the skillset taught, just as teenagers can.
I thought you guys had a group class. Do you still?
We no longer offer a group class after we found that participants were rarely willing to share vulnerably about themselves in front of other students. We only offer the 1:1 class now, so the conversations can be more genuine and thus the transformations more powerful.
Do the live course and video course cover the same material?
The live course takes about 12 weeks to complete (meeting once per week) and covers 4 parts (see curriculum above), while the video course covers only part one of the live course: making others feel seen and heard.
The video course is meant to be watched at a clip of one video per day, spending on average about 5 minutes with the lesson.
How does the money-back guarantee work?
If you stop the 1:1 live course at any point, we'll refund you the difference (so if you've completed just the first half of the course, we'll refund you half of what you've paid).
If you tell us that nothing in the course was of value to you, we'll refund the entire course to you, both for the live course and the video course.
Is this like therapy or counseling?
No. This class is not about listening to your problems. It's a training in practical skillset that you'll apply to every day of your life.
These skills deliver the results that people hope to get from therapy or counseling but often end up hugely disappointed at not achieving in those contexts: improved social skills, better relationships, reduced anxiety, greater self love, and huge boosts in courage to go after the life you desire.
Our bias is that, on the whole, these social skills are built much more effectively in our classes than in therapy or counseling.
Why do the courses cost so much?
The video course was made for students for whom the live course cost is too high.
Further, unlike academic tutoring which is done for classes that are unlikely to figure into the student's life later on, social skills immediately translate into all of the student's relationships, both now and decades into the future.
Imagine being a parent who makes their kids feel seen and heard, or a manager who does the same for his team, or a partner who does that for their husband or wife. How valuable will that be?
Imagine someone being able to tap into their calm and grounded self no matter the situation, for the rest of their lives, their anxious self no longer self-sabotaging them.
Imagine the results someone achieves when they become someone who courageously pursues their dreams over and over and doesn't let failures and setbacks derail them.
With those types of results guaranteed to any student who puts in the daily homework, do the prices of these courses still seem so high?
I'm not sure my son/daughter will be interested. What should we do?
No problem. Try the first class (a $222 first-class only option is available at Checkout) and see if the class is a fit or not.
James has no interest in teaching half-interested students, so if the requisite enthusiasm for the material isn't being shown, parents will be notified and a refund for the class will be given.

"Conversations are definitely a lot easier. The acknowledgments, like, work. It’s crazy. I’ve gotten a million times better at keeping conversations going. And I’m a lot calmer. I’m not like, ‘oh, what do I say next?’”

"I learned so much from the course and I already feel that I have improved dramatically since I first started.
I have been doing things that I had never imagined doing beforehand: introducing myself to strangers, advocating for myself, and asking women on dates.
I also like how you listened to me and made me feel seen, as you taught me. I am usually not very vulnerable and prefer to hide things about my life, so it takes a lot of skill to get those things out of me."
- Omri, 23
My name is James Treadway, I'm 40 as of this writing, and like so many do, I used to suffer terribly from anxiety, depression, and insecurity growing up.
I couldn't figure out how some of my peers seemed so confident when I was constantly doubting myself, worrying if I was good enough, and wondering how to "do it right" when it came to socializing.
In high school, I was so shut down that I went two years without talking to my parents at the dinner table each night, even though it was just the three of us.
Finally, in my late 30s, after attending more seminars, reading more books, and spending more hours in coaching and therapy than anyone I knew, I realized a solution to my conversational: make the other person feel seen.
It's a skill I call "acknowledgment." When you acknowledge someone, you show them that you see them, with care, just as they are. It can be the tiniest gesture to make, yet so often it seems to mean the world to people.
Acknowledgments changed my life. I stopped worrying about myself all of the time (am I good enough? Are they judging me? Do I fit in?), and started getting curious what it was like to be the people I was speaking to. And how can I show them that I see them?
I began making friends easily, while feeling joyful - simply by giving each person I spoke to the gift of feeling seen by me. And there were so many ways to do it.
I started sharing this insight with clients, and they came back to me telling me it was "a superpower." Acknowledgment was changing their lives, too.
Meanwhile, I had been an SAT tutor for twenty years, and as I got to know Gen Z better, I realized how much social anxiety, insecurity, and basic skills of relating to others were major problems for them, too.
Social Skills for Life is designed to fix those very problems.
Beyond making our students masters at acknowledgment, they gain life-changing skills around anxiety, fear of rejection, and self-love, too.
Imagine not worrying about your future anymore: whether you'll make truly good friends or not, impress the people who will open life-changing doors for you, have confidence in yourself, or enjoy deeply successful relationships.
In the last two decades, I spent $1.5 million of my own income on workshops, retreats, coaching, and therapy to arrive at the insights that make this class so effective.
Yes, it's crazy. But it will be to your benefit!
I invested this time and money into solving these problems SO THAT YOU WON'T HAVE TO!
We're only going to need 12 weeks to get the results that took me two decades to achieve.
I can't wait to walk this journey with you.
“Ella seems to have really enjoyed your class! She's gone to counselors in the past, but particularly liked your class because you teach and give direction, unlike what a counselor would do...passively listen and ask "how does that make you feel?" She needs that sense of direction and guidance.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: Will there be homework?
In James' interactive 1:1 course, he assigns students three minutes a day of quizzing themselves on key slides from the previous session.
In the video course, students have prompts for reflection/journaling after each lesson.
In both classes, reviewing key material daily keeps the content top-of-mind as students go through their day, so they're more likely to notice key themes in their daily life and practice the key techniques.
Q: $2,495 for the 1:1 class with James - isn't that a lot of money for a course that isn't about school?
Yes, yet "Social Skills for Life" - and this will sound like crazy exagerration - is likely to be the most life-changing class they ever take.
To a large degree, school teaches skills and knowledge that we don't use later in life.
Yet in Social Skills for Life or the "Make Them Feel Seen" video course, you will emerge with a self-awareness, groundedness, confidence, and social skill that will last the rest of your life. It won't just alter your career trajectory and the opportunities you're offered by people who want to work with you. It will make your personal relationships deeply fulfilling and successful, too. It will certainly make you a better partner and parent one day.
If you could guarantee these lifelong results - and spare yourself the expenses of therapies, coaching, medication, and addictive behaviors that all stem from insecurities and anxiety - for less than three grand, would you do so?
That is what these classes deliver.
You can quit the class at any time and have the balance of the class refunded to you, based on how much you completed. And if you believe the classes didn't offer you value, we'll refund you for the entire cost.
Q: Why do you teach the interactive class 1:1 instead of in groups?
We used to offer Social Skills for Life to groups of three and four students at a time, but gradually we realized that the one-on-one students were achieving deeper breakthroughs and realizations than the group class students.
Students who didn't know each other were much less likely to share vulnerably about themselves over Zoom in front of others.
As amazing as the class is, it requires a student who's willing to face their fears and limitations in an honest way and apply themselves to the material to discover how it works for them.
If you don't seem ready to do that, then this isn't the class for you.
If you ARE ready to approach the class in a committed and vulnerable way, then signing up will be one of the best decisions you've ever made.
Resolving anxiety is the theme of Part 2 in James' interactive 1:1 class.
Meanwhile, learning to make others feel seen and heard, the topic of the video course and Part 1 of the interactive course, will dramatically lower social anxiety, raise confidence, and thus ease overall anxiety as well.
"I wanted to tell you that so far Ben has been thriving in his first week at college. I barely hear from him because he is spending time with new friends. You will appreciate this…He actually told me he saw a girl at one of the organized events, she seemed as socially uncomfortable at the event as he did and he actually went over and started talking. They became fast friends. I do believe that his work with you gave him the confidence to do that 😊"

But Can't Stop Looking at Their Phones
What I noticed about teens' social skills while volunteering at a teen leadership camp the past six summers:
Almost 90% of the kids at camp each summer seem to show up with the same goal: they wanted better social skills. They wanted to be "more extroverted."
Yet when lunchtime or other down moments in the day arrived, kids didn't go up to each other and start conversations.
They stared down at their phones and scrolled emptily, each one alone from the others.
I sensed these kids wanted to engage with each other, but they had no idea where to start! They felt nervous, and awkward, and simply hid in the familiarity of their own world and phone.
Remember the Google study on "psychological safety" that I mentioned above? They didn't know how to check in with each other and let the other know, "you're OK as you are. You're safe with me" - the thing that each of them was dying to feel from someone else!
So they stayed stuck in their lonely bubbles, and God knows how much suffering this was creating for them back home at high school and college!
Think of how many kids are on anxiety or depression medication right now, their problems hugely fueled by the pain and insecurity of their social lives.
Rewind back to the leadership camp this past summer: there was one girl on my team of 25 teens who broke the mold: she would casually walk up to the other kids on her team and simply say, "how's it going?"
And whatever the kids would answer, she would engage with!
And of course, by the end of the week, it was SHE who was named "Leader of the Week!"
As far as I could tell, the only thing she did that others didn't was to check in with the people around her and relate to what they shared!
Whether she knew it or not, she was a master at acknowledging! She was a leader. And she seemed to be one of the happiest kids at the camp.
THIS is the shift your teen will start to experience: becoming the safe person in the room. Becoming the one who makes others feel seen and accepted as they are.
And don't think it's just other peers whom this matters to. It's EVERY human being in their lives, regardless of age or culture: teachers, bosses, family members, etc.
I've lived in London, Beijing, Colombia, Serbia, and many places in the US, and everywhere I've been, humans respond to acknowledgment with the exact same gratitude and appreciation. It's deeply rooted in our biology.
Not only will you you see a major shift in how your child interacts with peers and mentors - you'll see a NOTICEABLE change in how they interact with YOU!
For the first time, your teen will ask, "how are you, Mom?" or "how are you, Dad?" - and genuinely care about your answer!
This is the type of social habit that doesn't just change friend group dynamics, or the trajectory of your kid's career path in life - it will change your family, too.
